What are microgreens? Microgreens are the young version of green leafy vegetables and are harvested when their first leaves appear.
Why are microgreens so healthy? Microgreens are a rich source of bioactive compounds including carotenoids, phytosterols, and minerals. Microgreens have natural anti-microbial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Scientific research reports that microgreens contain four to 40 times more nutrients than their mature counterparts. 1, 2
How many servings of vegetables should I eat each day? The USDA recommends that adults eat 2–3 cups of vegetables per day. Most Americans don’t reach this goal.
What is the serving size of Sonoma Superfoods products? 2 teaspoons.
How many servings of highly concentrated microgreens are in each bag? ¼ teaspoon of concentrated, freeze-dried microgreens (1 gram) is approximately equivalent to one handful of fresh greens. As an example, our Italian Blend has 21. 6 grams of pea microgreens in each bag – an entire flat of concentrated microgreens!
How are the microgreens preserved? Our greens are freeze-drying help greens right at harvest to ensure peak freshness and nutritional benefits. The freeze-drying process is completely free of chemicals.
How are your greens grown? Our greens are grown indoors in a fully controlled environment without the use of fertilizers or pesticides. We use organic pea seeds, organic soil, and BPA-free growing containers. Nothing touches our greens except for water. As our microgreens grow indoors, they are unexposed to external agents like pests and insects. Also, there is no contamination because we don’t use fertilizers or manures.
Are your microgreen blends safe for children to eat? Our microgreen blends are safe for kids as freeze-dried microgreens are comparable to eating fresh leafy greens. Please review our ingredient list to check for any allergens.
Are your microgreen blends safe to use when pregnant or breastfeeding? Our microgreen blends are comparable to eating fresh greens. We advise you to reach out to your healthcare providers for their expertise before making changes to your diet during pregnancy.
Do you use organic ingredients? Our products are made with certified organic ingredients whenever possible. For more information, please review the ingredient list.
Are your products vegan? Yes, all of our products are 100% plant-based and vegan friendly.
Where do you source your ingredients? We prioritize sourcing non-GMO seeds and ingredients from the United States – and locally, where possible. We've committed to using responsibly sourced ingredients from growers using practices that don’t deplete or pollute the environment.
Do you include other natural flavors in your products?
We include natural flavors to make our blends delicious and appealing while keeping them at an affordable price point. All of our flavors originate from plant sources and are approved for use in food products.
Where are your products made and sold? Our products are made in Sonoma County, California. Currently, our products are only sold in the state of California.
How can I use my microgreen blends? The easiest way is to simply add them to the foods you already enjoy. You can sprinkle them on top of or into food, bake them into foods, stir them into sauces, etc. Be creative!
What is the shelf-life of the blends? We recommend using the blends within 6 months of opening. This will never be an issue once you see how easy it is to enhance the foods you already eat every day.
Can I cook or bake with the blends? Yes! The blends can be heated and/or baked into food.
How should I store the blends? Please store our product way from light in the original bag or in an amber glass jar. The products do not need to be refrigerated.
